7-year-old allegedly raped in Moulvibazar

A seven-year-old child was allegedly raped in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar yesterday, with local residents accusing the perpetrators of attempting to suppress the incident before the child was rescued.

The child is currently undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors are monitoring the condition, hospital sources said.

A case had been filed and drives are underway to arrest the accused, Rajnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farid Uddin said.

Sub-Inspector Lukman Hossain, also the investigating officer, said the victim's mother filed the case last night, naming Humayun Mia, around 30, a resident of the same locality, as the accused.

According to the case statement, the accused found the child alone, forcibly took him to a secluded place and raped him.

Police have launched an investigation following the filing of the case. The IO said further details would be available after a visit to the crime scene.
